Washington, D.C. – Today, the U.S. Supreme Court denied a cert petition filed by Kim Davis, a former county clerk in Kentucky, seeking the Court’s reversal of the landmark decision, Obergefell v. Hodges, which struck down state laws banning marriage for same-sex couples. Centerline Liberties applauds this decision, which reaffirms that the freedom to marry is settled law and that there is no appetite to relitigate its merits.
“The Supreme Court’s denial of Kim Davis’s cert petition reinforces principles that Centerline Liberties has found to be true in public opinion: A majority of Americans support the freedom to marry for all Americans and accept it as a societal norm,” said Centerline Liberties President James Dozier. “I’m glad to see the Supreme Court stand by its 2015 historic ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges, and maintain that the freedom to marry is not just the law of the land, but that support for it across the political aisle is stronger than ever.”
